long-winded gratitude, part 2 (an update)

When I wrote that last entry, I didn't expect things to blow up as crazily as they did, nor as quickly as they did. Surprise. That's how things go.
I was expecting to finish out the year merely existing, as I have been. I appear to be moving toward the top end of surviving, maybe even dipping my toes into thriving. We'll recap.
12/2: I receive an email from an org I love & volunteer with. I don't read the email right away because I'm doing other things & it's typically a "we did this much with this time period, great job!" sort of thing.
12/3: In a break between things, I read the email. It is exactly as I expected, except for the "we're hiring for these roles" lines at the bottom. I clicked into one of the job descriptions and realized that 95% of the tasks are things I've done before, and other than learning some new-to-me tech (that is, not necessarily new, but stuff that became more commonplace since I last worked in an office) and some HR stuff, I can pretty much do the work on autopilot. I open my resume and find that Past Me had thankfully updated it around the time I was last furloughed (from a kitchen). I cobble together a cover letter, send it off, and wait.
Later that afternoon, I receive an email asking me to come in and interview the next day. I agree.
12/4: I interview. It goes extremely well - to the point where the person I'm interviewing with is talking to me like the job is already mine. She says she'll call me the next day.
12/5: She emails me the next day with an offer that is more than I expected and also better-than-expected terms. I accept. She asks me to come in the next day for training.
12/6: I start my new job.
This is the way things tend to go in my life - a whole lotta nothing followed by a whole lotta everything. Everything hits at once. While I would love a more gradual transition everywhere, I've been learning to accept the fact that I'm always pivoting, sometimes much like an oscillating fan hooked up to a PowerStroke engine or something like that.
I wasn't intending to look for work until after the start of the new year, but here I am. I have necessary work to do for an org I love, and I'm thrilled about it. I'll be getting a paycheck that is more than I expected (and way more than I was getting in my kitchen roles, even with tips). I'm involved with one of my passions and a cause I feel strongly about.
Things aren't perfect, overall. But for the first time in a very long time, I have most of what I need.
* I learned that the person I'm replacing saw me walk in, remembered me from the time I volunteered onsite, and immediately thought, "YES!" which was super validating!
